A Message from the Creator of Scrappywood

Welcome family, friends, and fans! Thanks for taking a moment to visit Scrappywood, LA's Bits and Pieces.

animation film photoBack in 2004 I created my first “scrapamation” for a dear friend who was moving away. I wanted to thank her in a special way, and after about two weeks of drawing, cutting paper, filming, and learning Final Cut Studio I had created my first animation, Blue Friends. (She plays guitar and also drove a fugly green car at the time)

In 2006 I returned to paper and cut outs and worked on another video for someone with whom I was fortunate enough to cross paths. My video for him was entitled Special Friends.  (He likes Star Wars and the beach)

In January 2007 I came up with the concept of Scrappywood and creating an animated world of characters. I had to put the concept on the backburner for a while though. It’s now over two and a half years later and Scrappywood is back on the drawing board. After the response I received from two recent scrapamations (Someday Show , Whiplash) I decided the timing is right. And this time Scrappywood is coming back with full force!

Behind Scrappywood there is a far greater mission than to entertain. Although Scrappywood is fictional I think some of the themes and ideas revealed will feel very real and raw. Ultimately I hope to provide examples of how humans can cope and find meaning in the face of current political, social, and global obstacles. In my perspective, the word obstacle and opportunity are interchangeable. Obstacles are simply disguised opportunities to learn, grow, and evolve into a better person. I think laughter is one of the most valuable tools a filmmaker can use to communicate an idea or message. If I can address controversial issues in a way that is light-hearted, fun, and humorous I've succeeded.
